The formula
Converted = Amount × (Target per USD ÷ Source per USD)
Every pair is a cross rate through one base currency.
Worked example
An example appears once live rates load.
What you actually pay
Banks and cards add a margin (often 1–3% on cards abroad) plus fees, so compare the final amount, not just the headline rate.
Common questions
Where do these rates come from?
From the European Central Bank's daily reference rates, published around 16:00 Central European Time on working days and delivered through the open Frankfurter service. Weekends and ECB holidays show the last published rate.
Why is my bank's rate different?
Banks, cards, remittance apps and money changers quote a buy and a sell price around the mid-market rate and keep the gap as their margin, often with a fixed fee as well. The reference rate here is the midpoint, so what you actually get is usually a little worse.
How is a pair like GBP to INR worked out?
Rates are published against one base currency, so any other pair is a cross rate: the target's rate divided by the source's rate. For example GBP→INR = (INR per USD) ÷ (GBP per USD).
Why is the UAE dirham always 3.6725 per dollar?
The dirham is officially pegged to the US dollar by the Central Bank of the UAE, so we use that fixed peg. The ECB does not publish a dirham rate.
Can I use this for a real transaction?
Use it to understand and estimate. It is not a quote: for an actual transfer, check the final amount and all fees with your bank or provider before you confirm.
