Solid line: result on expiry day. Dashed line: what the position is worth today. The gap is time value — it shrinks every day, which costs option buyers and earns option sellers.
Day 0 of 14: time decay so far at spot 110 = ₹0
IV change:points. Before results, budgets or RBI policy IV often rises, then drops sharply after ("IV crush") — a long straddle can lose much of its premium even if the price does not move.

Guided challenges (0/3)

Long call: strike 100, premium 8, 10 units. What is the breakeven?

Bull call spread: buy 100 call @8, sell 110 call @3 (10 units). What is the maximum gain in ₹?

Short call: strike 100, premium 8 (10 units). What is the loss at expiry price 200 in ₹?

Glossary

  • Strike: the price at which the option lets you buy (call) or sell (put) the underlying.
  • Premium: the price of the option per unit. Buyers pay it, sellers receive it.
  • Lot: options trade in fixed bundles. Total units = lots × units per lot.
  • Expiry: the date the option ends. This lab shows the payoff only on that date.
  • Intrinsic value at expiry: call = max(S − strike, 0); put = max(strike − S, 0).
  • Breakeven: the expiry price where total profit/loss is exactly zero.
  • Hedge: a leg added to limit the loss of another leg, usually reducing the gain too.

Tip: "Change one variable" — add the strategy to Compare, edit one strike, premium or lot, add it again and read the differences.
