If you have been searching for "Geo Platform IPO" or "Jio IPO subscription status" this week, you are not alone. Jio Platforms, the digital arm of Reliance Industries, opened India's largest-ever fresh-issue IPO on 21 October 2026. Here is a plain-language look at what the subscription numbers actually say, and what they don't.
The issue at a glance
Day 1: who actually bid?
By the close of Day 1, the issue was subscribed 3.16 times. Bids came in for 62.3 crore shares against 19.75 crore shares on offer (NSE data, as reported by Moneycontrol).
By Day 2, reports said the retail portion had crossed full subscription, and the overall book was about 3.5 times.
How to read these numbers without guessing
1. "Subscribed 3x" doesn't mean every category is 3x. The headline figure is mostly driven by institutions. A retail investor's allotment odds depend on the retail number, not the overall one.
2. Retail allotment works by lottery once it is oversubscribed. SEBI rules give each successful retail applicant at least one lot. If retail ends at, say, 3x, roughly one in three applicants (by number of applications) can get a lot. Bidding for more lots doesn't improve your odds much.
3. Strong QIB demand reflects big institutions' interest. It's useful context, but it doesn't guarantee a listing price. Anchors such as GIC, Norges Bank and ADIA took part, which tells you about interest, not about returns.
4. GMP is unofficial. Grey-market premium figures (some sites quoted around ₹250–₹273) come from unregulated dealings. They change by the hour and can't be verified. Treat them as noise, not a forecast.
A simple checklist before anyone applies
- Read the Red Herring Prospectus on SEBI, NSE or BSE: business, risks, and use of the money raised.
- Work out how much one lot costs (about ₹13,428 at the upper band) and whether that money is truly spare.
- Apply only through ASBA or UPI from your own bank account.
- Check allotment on the registrar's site or on NSE/BSE after 26 October.
- If you don't get shares, the blocked amount is released. There's nothing to "chase".
Key dates to remember
- 23 Oct: Bidding closes
- 26 Oct: Allotment expected
- 27 Oct: Refunds/unblocks and credit to demat (expected)
- 28 Oct: Proposed listing
